At our coastal Laguna Beach treatment center, we offer two distinct programs based on the level of care you need. With both partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs available, transitioning between care levels is easy and comfortable whenever it’s needed.
Many of our clients start out in PHP, and then transition to IOP—which is a less intensive treatment option—when they’re doing better. Although Laguna Beach is not a residential facility, we want to ensure you have a safe and comfortable experience. That’s why all clients receiving care at Laguna Beach are welcome to stay at one of our transitional living homes for the duration of their treatment.
Our mental health facility in Laguna Beach provides an inviting environment for those seeking PHP or IOP treatment. With stunning coastal views and top-notch care from our expert staff, clients have an ideal setting to improve their mental health and well-being.
At our Laguna Beach facility, we prioritize creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all clients. With 27 treatment rooms available, we are well-equipped to accommodate various mental health conditions.

Your mental health is our priority with Alter’s IOP and PHP programs in Laguna Beach. Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) offers flexible part-time treatment, allowing you to juggle life’s demands while receiving the care you need. This is perfect for people stepping down from inpatient treatment or those who need a structured program but can’t commit to full-time care.
For those who need more support, our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides 36 hours of weekly treatment without requiring a residential stay. Take charge of your well-being in a way that fits your routine at Alter’s seaside Laguna Beach facility.
The average length of treatment for both PHP and IOP is 30-60 days.
The coastal location of our Laguna Beach facility allows for a range of therapeutic and recreational activities, from psycho-education to yoga on the beach or kayaking in the ocean.
We also organize group sessions such as life skills training, community council meetings, and other educational activities.
Depending on their program, clients will follow a structured routine, planned to benefit their unique mental health needs.
Residential mental health treatment involves living within the facility with limited freedom, while PHP offers intensive care for 6 hours a day, 6 days a week, allowing you to return home afterward. PHP provides structured support without the need for full-time residence, catering to individuals who require focused but non-residential care.
Clients residing far from Laguna Beach can commute to our facility and opt to stay in one of our transitional living homes, ensuring convenience and access to our programs while maintaining a comfortable living arrangement.
Determining whether PHP or IOP is suitable depends on the level of care needed. PHP entails 36 hours of weekly treatment, providing more intensive support than IOP, which serves as a step-down program after PHP or residential treatment. Consultation with our experts can help guide you towards the most appropriate treatment option for your needs
At our Laguna Beach facility, we specialize in treating a range of mental health conditions, including all those listed on our What We Treat page. We also help individuals suffering from substance abuse, interpersonal domestic issues, coping strategies for diagnosed individuals, mental health crises, and challenges faced by middle-aged individuals.
We value the feedback from our many clients and we are proud of these success stories. Knowing we have made a positive impact on the lives of these individuals and families is most important to us.
